Many years ago, Burnham Neal had a vision to revitalize the Cumberland County area. He formulated a plan to build a community center and pool on the historic Toledo square. Upon his passing, he provided funds to make his plan a reality for the residents of Cumberland County. Construction of the Neal Center YMCA was recently completed, and the facility officially opened on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
At the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
The Y has been listening and responding to our communities’ most critical social needs for 160 years. Whether developing skills or emotional well-being through education and training, welcoming and connecting diverse demographic populations through global services, or preventing chronic disease and building healthier communities through collaborations with policymakers, the Y fosters the care and respect all people need and deserve. Through the Y, 500,000 volunteers and thousands of donors, leaders and partners across the country are empowering millions of people in the U.S. and around the world (and now in Cumberland County) to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.
Mr. Neal stepped forward to provide for Toledo and the area for many years to come. This beautiful new facility is only possible through the support of generous organizations like the Neal Foundation, and our loyal members. We hope you will join us and become a part of the wonderful memories that we will make at the Neal Center YMCA.
